    Hello,
My laptop is Inspiron 15z 5523

Why Windows 8.1 uses more RAM than Windows 8.

When I just start Windows 8.1 I notice in Task Manager the RAM it uses is 2.5 GB
While in Windows 8 it is 1.6 GB

Why don't you give something like Resource Monitor a try and see if you can get a better picture as to what is going on with your physical memory and what is using what / how much. ResMon.png

    Here,
Can you check what is taking up memory?
I left the Inspiron 15z 5523 open and not even running firefox.exe or any other software rather than Internet Download Manager downloading games...

I wouldn't be too overly concerned with what you are seeing and experiencing. Have a look at this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff382715.aspx
to get a better understanding of what is going on and make sure to read that last full paragraph.
I don't see any one, single, issue that is overly demanding but rather the shear number of processes. In a rough count I see approximately 88.
    In comparison, I have 40.
