    So Shintaro,
Why this issue happens with the old Intel Graphics driver downloaded from the DELL site and doesn't happen with the latest generic one downloaded from Intel?
So, it's not a hardware issue after all.

But WHY? Why the old Intel driver downloaded from DELL causes this?

Anyway Shintaro, my lest few posts in this thread that I will download the DELL recommended old drivers and re-install Windows 8.1 for the last time and use the old drivers until an announcement from DELL And my final test here will be when I change the power settings in the Intel old driver to "Balanced Mode" testing it with IDM while display is turned off then if it occurred as well then I am going to manually shut down windows every time.

Well I would better use the DELL outdated drivers for now just to make sure no problems or issues happens because of the latest ones and just to follow Intel's advice. Intel told me "I strongly recommend you to use the DELL customized Intel driver".

But can you tell me why the latest generic Intel driver doesn't cause this issue while the DELL customized one causes it.
Will the DELL customized Graphics Intel drivers always cause this even if they updated it or perhaps because that DELL one was outdated?

Damn I am not testing this anymore,
Unfortunately I found that after installing the old Intel driver, it was set to "Balanced Mode" not "Maximum"
And I don't think if I disabled the nVIDIA Control Panel Right-Click menu, it will fix the issue.
So I think I am going to use these DELL drivers until an update from them.

    Inspiron 15z 5523
    Windows 10 Technical Preview

    - Intel Graphics HD 4000 "10.18.10.3277" The old driver
    - nVIDIA GeForce GT 630M "331.65"

I'm coming in late to this party so forgive me if I missed something in the first 129 posts.

Are you running the latest version of the BIOS for your computer? If not, please update.
What is the ACPI setting for sleep state(s) set to in the BIOS? This should be something like S1, S3, S1&S3.
Inside windows, have you used the advanced power settings? Could I see a screenshot of the power settings? Try setting it so the hard drive never sleeps.

    Well,
I set that in Advanced Power settings.
Hard driver never sleeps when in battery and when plugged in.
But I can't see sleep state in the BIOS. The BIOS is the latest version.

I read that you tried disabling "Advanced Startup Technology" in the BIOS but still got a black screen sometimes. Did it happen less frequently? Did you try that in conjunction with different video card drivers?

How long have you had the computer and how long ago did the problem start? I'm just spit-balling ideas: have you run a virus scan in safe mode? Have you installed any new software?

Basically if it "used to" work and recently doesn't then you look at the recent changes to hardware or drivers. Have you gotten any DMP files? I've never used it myself, but maybe you would have some luck with Driver Verifier on, to see what driver may be causing the issue.

Unfortunately problems where you can't consistently create the issue and you get no errors/DMP files can be extremely difficult to ferret out and may take a lot of trial and error.

Yes, I have tried the Latest Intel Graphics driver that was 10.18.10.3621 and the hang issue of laptop when IDM turns of laptop while display is turned off didn't ever happen.

I only had the laptop for 4 months now.

So with the latest driver and Rapid Startup Disabled you never "hang" ? Then that is the best solution, leave Rapid Startup Disabled until a new BIOS is released that fixes it.

Thank you Trainable for helping me.
    Really?
But why the BIOS doesn't do this hang with the latest Intel Graphics driver and does it with the one from DELL dated Oct 2013?

I can only guess there is some incompatibility between the rapid boot & the new video driver. At this point you could complain to Dell & Intel about the issue and hope the next version of video driver update might repair the issue or the next rapid start update ("the software service and/or BIOS component"). But for now you choices seem to be to use the older video driver & rapid start or the newer video driver w/o rapid start.

No, the issue occurs with the older Intel driver not the newer one.

OK, you always want to use the newest drivers if you can. They release updates to fix something and hopefully they don't break something else in the process. So if the issue only occurs with the old driver, use the new one and then there is no problem.

Oh my god! What a shame!
Today I MANUALLY shut down my laptop and it did hang on shut down!!!!! And I hold down the Power button to shut it down.

Anyway when I turned it on again, I immediately got my first BSOD since I have installed Windows 8.1 on 5th October 2014.

Can you help me identify what have caused this hang on after shutting down even when manually shutting it down??!
And what is the cause of that BSOD??!!

The error points to the Windows Update file mcupdate_GenuineIntel.dll . Because this is a part of the OS it is unlikely the actual cause. Because Windows Update would use your Internet connection I would see about updating your LAN drivers for your network interface card (if you connect via wire) or see about updating your Wi-fi drivers (if networking wirelessly).
