I thought the Windows 7 Forums member account's were supposed to be applied to the Windows 8 Forums as well. Why did I have to create a new account here ?

Nope, the Win8 forums did not import user accounts. You would need to ask Ian for specifics, but I would guess it was partly to start fresh given the large number of inactive accounts & usernames on the Win7 forums.

    Welcome aboard!

Although it's technically possible to import just the usernames from Windows 7 Forums over here, it would be effectively signing people up to a new site which they may not wish to join (as they would be contactable over here via PM and profiles). It would have been nice to allow people to log in straight away using some shared system, but as they didn't sign up for the site I didn't want to auto register existing people on here - as I'm sure that there would have been some complaints.

It only takes a few mins to sign up again over here, plus it gives you the chance to pick a nice new avatar ;).
