I remember hearing that a bunch of the July Patch Tuesday update's were buggy and causing alot of issue's. I don't remember which one's they were, though, as my pc wasn't working until last week. All I know is that, I've done 2 clean install's of Windows 8 Pro w/W.M.C. x64 in the past week. I have all my software, driver's and u.e.f.i. updated. I've had the same result's with both install's. I.E. 10, File Explorer, W>M.C., W.M.P. and all my other software freezes up within 4-5 minute's, unless if I'm in Safe Mode or Safe Mode w/Networking. My case light for h.d.d./s.s.d. activity stop's showing activity or just stay's lit up non-stop. My mechanical h.d., alway's shows 100 % usage in task manager. CheckDisk during bootup even freezes up. I've had no b.s.o.d.'s, so I doubt I have any memory dump's. SIDE NOTE: Forum isn't letting me change my system spec.'s : New updated part's are : Mobo: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.o w/1708 u.e.f.i., cpu: AMD FX 8350, r.a.m.: G-Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D8GBRL (2 kit's - 16 gbs.), video card: XFX Radeon HD 5770 1.0 gb. (until next month - then a GeForce GTX 660ti), p.s.u.: Corsair HX-850W, heat-sink: Corsair Hydro Series H-100 (not in yet- waiting until the weekend to put in- stock AMD's in there now) and case: Corsair Carbide 500R White. I've only got one of my W.D. Caviar Black 1.0 tb. h.d.d.'s hooked up with my OCZ Vertex 3 120 gb. MaxIOPs s.s.d. for now. Tomorrow, I have a Seagate Barracuda 3.0 tb. h.d.d. and a new DVD-Rw (either Samsung or LiteOn coming from Newegg. The Caviar Black and Samsung SH S223C are coming out. The Vertex 3 is coming out in October and being replaced with a Samsung 840 Pro 256 gb. Oh, my blu-ray burner and t.v. tuner are still the same.

Restore to a time before the updates.....then manually install the updates one by one until the you start seeing the issue. It's the old school way, but it's the for sure way to tell.

It's weird I never got a chance to run System Restore. I fell asleep and woke up, apparently Windows refreshed itself and I had to reinstall everything. I'm beginning to wonder if it's either something from Asus AI Suite 2 that's incompatible with 8. It could also be Bitdefender Internet Security. I had to uninstall it, this morning. It started giving me messages to restart my pc at startup, so the firewall could apply a update. After 5 repeated restart's with the same startup message, I uninstalled it and am waiting for Bitdefender support to get back to me. I'm still having freezeup's, but not as often.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe I heard that Bitdefender had problems with windows 8. I'm not sure if they patched it or required an new version install?

Yeah, it also freezes up on the lock screen. I reinstalled it. Now I get the message @ every startup and it apparently freezes the lock screen. If you try to hit a key to get to the password/login screen nothing happen's. It's a shame my Norton expired before I had my pc up again. Bitdefender was supposed to refund my money back in December. It doesn't work installing games, with it, even if you put the a.v. in game mode. I figured I'd use it until October, as 'm not reinstalling my games until then, when I have a bigger ssd.

Why not just use windows 8 built in AV? Works really well, as most of us use it. Along with Malwarebyte Pro for real-time malware portection, most never see an infection.

Last I heard MSE/Defender haven't been faring well in any of the virus test's. That's been for I believe at least 1 year now. Also, I finally put my H100 in and ditched the AMD heatsink.

May I ask what July Patch Tuesday is, or was since it is now August? I apologize for asking such a novice question, but I am just curious.

Patch Tuesday is the 2nd Tuesday of the month, when Microsoft releases updates for it's software. The July patches apparently had alot of bug's in them. Microsoft also, occasionally releases emergency patches on the 4th Tuesday or Thursday of the month. Most people know and call the 2nd Tuesday of the month Patch Tuesday.

Okay, thanks. My reason for asking was I heard that a patch was released for the lock screen Seattle image, and I was wondering if I had to install it myself, or if already have it installed as an update. I do not know if the rumor about the Seattle patch is true, but if it is, I should be go to go.
