Oracle released a update for Java late last night

    Very odd, I verified my Java on Windows 7, and on Windows 8. Both verifications told me that I had the recommended Java installed, but Windows 7 held Version 7 Update 5, whilst Windows 8 held Version 6 Update 33.

    So the new Windows uses older Java? It makes no sense to me.
