Hello everyone! I switched to Windows 8 recently, and while everything seems pretty cool at first glance, I still couldn't get used to the fact that the start menu is gone! Is there some ways or options that I can configure in the control panel to get my old user interface back? Or do I need to download something for it?

    Thanks in advance everyone!

If you don't mind paying $4.99 you can have the Start button AND the Start menu back.
Here is the link : http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/download.asp
It works just like when you had the Win 7 or Vista.

I have a Win 8.1 Pro, and I am using the Start8 myself.

P.S. That $4.99 is not subscription. It's a one time deal. You buy it, you own it.
There are others similar and they are free. However, I had encountered issue in on form or another when I tried them.
I have no issue with this Start8. $4.99 is dirt cheap and well worth it, in my opinion

Here is a screenshot of my Start button and Start Menu from my Win 8.1 Pro computer.
(I customized the Start button. It would be a familiar round button).

Hmm......I think I will try the free programs for now. And you can customize the start menu too? Awesome! Thanks for all the links!

I've only used 2...Classic Shell and Start8....I, like davidhk129, liked Start8 over Classic Shell I bought it as well. I'm using it on my laptop but on my desktop...I'm strictly using the new start screen.

But for a free one the most recommended one is Classic Shell.

I think I will also stick to the free programs. We shouldn't have to pay to get back such a basic feature.

and the 360 one is free, the only issue is that I am not sure whether it has multi-language support.
