In spite of our best efforts and sanctions in place that are suppose to stop this type of thing from ever happening.
It looks like the Government of Syria managed to acquire a pretty sizeable quantity of tech, courtesy of Dell.

Hardly surprising at all. People are always very creative and enterprising when there is money to be made. The same thing has happened with arms embargo. The embargoed countries have always found a way to get their arms as long as they have the money to pay for it.

It's neigh impossible to sanction a country with trade restrictions that can actually stop trade. Alll the restrictions do is require additional hoops and make it more expensive for that country to trade. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out though, as Dell will probably be forced by their own contracts & US law to drop their Middle East supplier once its proven. They probably have others anyway.

A bit ironic I saw your post just after reading about how Syria shut down the Internet in their country earlier today for a second time.
