Tried playing Minecraft on Windows 8, then left it running and pressed the Windows key to get to the start screen.

Minecraft then crashed and I lost my world :(

I knew about Notch rejecting Windows 8, but he's known for being extremely lazy and I think that's the root issue, not the "openness" of the platform.

Speaking of rewriting Minecraft, they should move from crappy Java to C imo.

Best solution is to save your world before opening it. Periodically save your world to make sure you don't lose too much progress if you accidentally hit it. I'm sorry to say that Windows 8 and Minecraft are very incompatible with each other.

Saving my world requires exiting the world though :p

Anyway, I tried a different launcher, sk89q's, and it works fine now.

Meh. It's great that you found a solution to it, though. I wish I could've been of more help. Good luck mining!
