It should be in win 7 forum - but I cant even create a profile there because of the problem I am having .. All of a sudden IE (post adobe flash, win updates etc) aint working correct -- volume tools on websites have disappeared, it wont play videos (even though I can hear the audio), and most disturbing of all - it WONT let me 'select' anything from drop downs etc ... I have reinstaled Java, Adobe Flash (32 & 64) .. but nothing seems to be correctng it .. what the heck do I do next?

    Try going into Control Panel.
Bottom left corner of screen (toggle widget) right click and choose Control Panel.
Top right corner, drop down to change the View by: to "Small Icon"
    Open "Internet Options"
    Select the Advance Tab
Click the "Restore advance settings" button
And then Click the "Reset" button
You can choose to "Delete personal settings" if you wish, just in case there is something messed up in there.
Then click the "Reset" button within that dialog box.
    See if that helps.
    Keep us posted
    Regards
    Randy

Sounds like to me you might have been infected with a worm or trojan of some kind. Have you checked your system for Virus's and malware?

I have always run Win Essentials and in the past Norton IS also .. all up to date .. Norton is now gone because 2013 would not install . I have installed and run Malware Bytes and Spybot S&D - nothing ..
I thought about re-installing IE - but couldn't find an easy way to do it - so I did install IE10 - computers are all up-to-date - always are .. IE 10 DID NOT FIX - still missing 'controls' on web pages - not allowing selection from drop down boxes .. for now I am running Chrome - seems to be ok there
