Avast not supported by win 8.1

    I had been using Avast free edition ( 8.0 version ) in my Win 8 Pro.
    Yesterday I upgraded to Win 8.1 rtm and found out they are not compatible.
    However, I looked at the web and it says they are compatible.

    Is there a newer version of Avast that is compatible with win 8.1 ?

    I am now using AVG, but would rather use Avast.

    Adding......
    There is a beta version from Avast, 8.0.1496 which claims to be compatible with Win 8.1
    Not sure I want to use a beta version of any kind.

    By the way, this forum is not entirely compatible with IE11 either.
    I could sign in but when I tried to post a question, I could go only as far as entering the title. I could not enter the message.
    I had to put this forum's address into compatibility view box.

    No good.
    The beta version is NOT compatible either.

    Decided to give Windows Defender ( aka MSE ) a 2nd chance.
    I'll just use the Malwarebytes (free edition ) more frequently.

    Hey david, that's my setup exactly....I've been using that setup since I first installed windows 8 and now with 8.1 and I've not had one issue. I'm using the Pro version of Malwarebytes, which just has full time protection. They work really well together.

    Kaspersky IS doesn't work in 8.1 yet either, so I'm temporarily using the Bit Defender trial - so far so good :).

    Yep, I'm awaiting a fix from the forum software guys - I'll see if I can put a temp fix in place.

    I have to hope for the best.
    I really don't trust MSE/Windowsdefender.
    It can't catch a buffalo in a 5'x8' room !

    I here nothing but awesome things about Eset...any of their products. But I hate having pay for an annual subscription.
